Which formats and systems does Pulsar Hell support?

A macOS instrument: standalone, VST3 or Audio Unit in any compatible host, such as Reaper, Logic Pro, Ableton Live or Bitwig. It requires macOS 13 Ventura or later.

Where does the installer put Pulsar Hell?

/Applications/Pulsar Hell.app, /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/Pulsar Hell.vst3 and /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/Pulsar Hell.component. Any format can be deselected.

How do I uninstall Pulsar Hell?

Delete the application and plugin files. That leaves your presets and wavetables; to remove those too, delete ~/Library/Audio/Presets/PulsarHellAudio/. Back up your User folders first.

Presets & wavetables

Where are presets and wavetables stored?

Under ~/Library/Audio/Presets/PulsarHellAudio/Pulsar Hell/, created on first run and shared by all three formats. Factory and User folders for both presets and wavetables.

Will an update overwrite my presets?

No. Anything you save goes to the User folders, which are never overwritten. Factory folders hold shipped content and may be replaced on update.

Which audio files can I load as wavetables?

WAV, AIFF and FLAC. Up to 65,536 samples are read and resampled to 2048 with linear interpolation, loaded as they are. Your original file is not changed.

Using it in your DAW

Pulsar Hell does not appear in my DAW.

Trigger a plugin rescan and restart the host. In Logic Pro, let macOS finish validating the Audio Unit on first launch.

Do I need to send MIDI notes?

No. Pulsar Hell triggers itself. It accepts MIDI input for host compatibility but ignores note messages.

How do I use more than two outputs?

Set each train's channel count on its mixer strip, 2, 3, 4, 6 or 8, and match the host track or bus width. Only the channels the host provides are output.
